Eversmart apologises for implying endorsement of tariff

Greater Manchester-based supplier Eversmart Energy has apologised to Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis after sending out an email implying he endorsed its latest tariff.

The email was sent in relation to Lewis talking about the idea of paying for a year’s worth of energy bills up front, something customers can do with Eversmart’s Family Saver Club tariff.

Eversmart has since admitted the email should not have been sent to customers and has apologised to Lewis as a result.

Lewis, who founded the Money Saving Expert website in 2003, said in a statement on Facebook: “I have heard Eversmart Energy sent out an email to customers implying I endorsed them.

“If you got that – it is not true.  It has agreed to stop doing it.”

In response to the statement Barney Cook, chief executive of Eversmart, said the company had apologised to Lewis and his team.

Cook said: “Martin Lewis talked about the idea of paying for a year’s worth of energy bills up front on his TV show the other night, just like our Family Saver Club tariff, and we thought his comments were positive.

“We’ve had such a fantastic response from our customers to the Family Saver Club, so we wanted to share the news with them.

“We sent an email we shouldn’t have sent, and we’ve apologised to Martin and his team. It won’t happen again and we hope there are no hard feelings. We’re huge fans of Martin and his work.”
