Extraenergy to gain 30,000 new customers following collective switch

The supplier, which only launched in the UK domestic market in March, offered customers who signed up to the collective switching scheme, run in collaboration with The Sun, a 12 month fixed deal for £949.

The Big Deal claims the tariff is “£11 cheaper than the best tariff on switching sites” and its members could cut their annual energy bills by up to £316 by switching.

The Big Deal co-founder Will Hodson said “people power has delivered”. “And more importantly it’s delivered for people who have been let down by the energy market for too long,” he added.

Energy secretary Ed Davey backed the initiative and called it a “great deal”. “I’ve been pushing collective switching from day one and The Sun’s deal shows the power of people clubbing together and demanding the best price from energy suppliers,” he said.

The news comes on the back of a collective switching scheme this month, which saw 60,000 consumers change their energy supplier in ten days.
