Fallago Rig windfarm officially opened

The 144MW windfarm located in the Lammermuir Hills, Berwickshire, was built and is operated by EDF Energy Renewables, began generating in March, and was commissioned in May.

The 48 turbine site was developed with sustainability as a “key criteria” and saw the project team use resources available on site, such as rock from newly created quarries to construct the 36km of site roads.

Scottish energy minister Ewing said: “This 144MW capacity site will move us closer to achieving our ambition to generate the equivalent 100 per cent of our annual electricity demand from renewables by 2020.”

Christian Egal, chief executive at EDF Energy Renewables, said he was extremely proud”, adding: “We have demonstrated plans for the future to support the UK in reaching its renewable energy targets. Fallago Rig demonstrates that ambition and our ability to deliver.”

The Roxburghe Estate and the Fallago Rig windfarm will pay £240,000 per annum, for the life of the project, into a local community fun, which will be managed by the Tweed Forum.
