Innogy, which has a 26.7 per cent stake in the scheme, said another 47 in total should be installed by 2013, taking the wind farm’s capacity to 325MW.
Six 5MW turbines have been in operation at Thornton Bank since 2009. The firm said it will apply the learning from installing and operating these big turbines to its Nordsee Ost windfarm, around 30 kilometres to the north-east of the island of Helgoland in the German North Sea.
