The chief executive of First Utility, Ian McCaig, has announced he will be leaving the company in September, after six years in the role.
Speaking after the announcement, McCaig said “it has been an enormous privilege to lead this dynamic organisation over the last few years”.
“First Utility is a brand that promises and delivers something different to any other. For personal reasons however, I have decided the time has come for me to hand the baton to those leading First Utility through to its next chapter as a diversified multi-utility challenger.”
His comments made reference to the firm’s continuing diversification efforts, which have seen the launch of its own broadband service, and the creation of a trades services platform, in partnership with BIZZBY, earlier this year.
McCaig was formerly chief executive of the website Lastminute.com and joined First Utility in 2011.
The company chairman, Thomas Chambers, commented: “I want to thank Ian for his exemplary leadership and for the remarkable progress we have seen at First Utility. We have now begun the search for a suitable successor to lead the next phase of the company’s development.”
McCaig is also a member of the ChildLine Board at the NSPCC and a trustee of English Heritage.
He oversaw First Utility starting its own charitable foundation in 2014.
