Five suppliers ordered to pay into FIT scheme

Five energy suppliers have been ordered by Ofgem to collectively pay £575,000 into the government’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme.

Whoop Energy, Simply Your Energy/ Entice, Social Energy Supply, Delta Gas and Power and Orbit Energy have been each issued with a provisional order after failing to make payments by the second quarter deadline on 10 November.

Orbit Energy accounts for the vast majority of the shortfall, owing more than £451,000.

The amounts owed by the suppliers are:

Whoop Energy £19,013
Simply Your Energy/ Entice £28,353
Social Energy Supply £28,735
Delta Gas and Power £46,701
Orbit Energy £451,296

A mutualisation process can be triggered if the shortfall is large enough.

Failure to comply with the provisional orders could see Ofgem take further actions such as revoking the suppliers’ licences or imposing financial penalties.

All five suppliers are currently listed as being in credit default by Elexon, with the code administrator also recently deciding to expel Whoop, Simply Your Energy and Orbit Energy from the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC).

Elexon also previously said it would expel Delta Gas and Power but revoked its decision after the retailer remedied its credit default.

Ofgem recently ordered Whoop, Delta and Entice to pay into the Renewables Obligation scheme. The three suppliers collectively owed more than £611,000.
