Forewind signs more Dogger Bank agreements for offshore wind connections

The Forewind consortium said yesterday that it had signed agreements for a further 3GW of grid connections with National Grid, on top of 3GW already agreed. Forewind, made up of Norway’s state energy companies Statkraft and Statoil, with SSE and RWE, wants to achieve consent for at least 9GW of offshore wind farms within the Dogger Banks.

One of the new connections could connect at the Creyke Beck substation, near Cottingham in the East Riding of Yorkshire where Forewind already has an agreement with National Grid for a gigawatt connection. The consortium is now looking at suitable Teeside locations for the other 2GW.

Forewind, potentially with other partners, ultimately plans to build around a dozen wind farms within the zone. The consortium said yesterday that its immediate priority is to focus on the development of its first six projects.
