The Ovo energy group has appointed a former special adviser to the prime minister as the chief of staff to chief executive and founder, Stephen Fitzpatrick.
Georgia Berry will take up the newly-created role next month.
She was a special adviser to the prime minister, overseeing the development of government policy across all aspects of energy including generation mix and technologies, the UK energy network, and reforms to the retail market.
Fitzpatrick said she will play a “vital role in helping to shape our strategy as we accelerate our efforts towards helping create a democratised and decarbonised future energy system”.
“Her deep understanding of the impact digitisation is having on our industry, coupled with her passion for sustainability issues, will prove invaluable as we seek to harness the disruptive power of technology to make energy better for everyone,” added the company founder.
Prior to joining Downing Street, Berry was head of corporate responsibility at Centrica, where she shaped strategies focused on sustainable growth.
“Ovo has built a strong reputation as an innovative company that prioritises the interests of its customers, but that is just the start,” said Berry.
“I’m excited about working with Stephen to develop growth strategies for the wider business that will harness the opportunities presented by emerging technologies.
“Future changes, including the development of in-home battery storage, electric vehicles and smart controls, present the opportunity to provide everybody with abundant, clean and fairly-priced energy,” she added.
