Former Easyjet director joins Thames Water’s board

Thames Water has appointed Catherine Lynn, a former group strategy and group commercial director at Easyjet, to join its board as an independent non-executive director.

Lynn who has played a leadership role in Europe’s low-cost aviation sector for 20 years, with a focus on “delivering outstanding customer service” took up the position on Wednesday (28 November).

As part of a review of its corporate structure, which is nearing completion, Thames Water has pledged to have a majority of independent non-executive directors on its board.

The review’s aim is to boost transparency for customers and stakeholders and was launched following the arrival of Ian Marchant, the former chief executive of SSE, as chairman at the start of this year.

Lynn’s experience also includes being part of the start-up team for British Airways budget carrier Go Fly, as founding head of customer services. She has more than 10 years non-executive experience, including seats on audit and risk and chair of remuneration committees with ACL (Airport Coordination Limited) and Liberty Living, a student accommodation provider.

Following her appointment to the board at Thames Water, Lynn said: “I’m delighted to be adding my experience to the board at such an important time in the company’s history and helping to deliver the modern and high-quality water network our customers rightly expect.”

Marchant added: “Thames Water has been going through a period of unprecedented change, as we realign the business to build a better future for our customers and the environment. With her wealth of experience in ensuring millions of customers are at the heart of business decisions, Catherine is a great addition to the board.”

In June, Thames Water announced that Alistair Buchanan, the former chief executive of Ofgem, had joined as an independent non-executive director to help strengthen the company’s governance.

Jill Shedden, who is currently group director of human resources at Centrica, also recently joined Thames Water’s board as an independent non-executive director.

In a recent interview with Utility Week, Thames Water’s chief executive, Steve Robertson, said: “There is a real unity of purpose inside our business. That is the foundation of our transformation.”
