After a difficult election campaign for the Liberal Democrat party it was confirmed on Friday morning that Davey lost his Kingston and Surbiton seat to Tory James Berry.
The Lib-Dems suffered heavy losses in the election following five years in coalition with the Conservative party in what party leader Nick Clegg described as a “cruel and punishing night”.
The party formerly in charge of the Department of Energy and Climate Change saw its seats fall from 57 to just 8 shortly before 08.30 Friday morning, after 610 of the 650 seats had been confirmed.
The former water minister Dan Rogerson also lost his North Cornwall seat. Conservative candidate Scott Mann was elected as the constituency’s new MP, winning 45 per cent of the vote, compared to Rogerson’s 31 per cent.
Other top Liberal Democrat losses include former business secretary Vince Cable and Treasury minister Danny Alexander.
Labour’s former shadow energy minister Tom Greatrex was among many Labour Party losses in Scotland, losing his Rutherglen and Hamilton West seat to the SNP candidate Margaret Ferrier.
