Former Npower boss to join nuclear authority

The authority said on Monday that Beckers will join with immediate effect, at the same time as Severn Trent’s HR director Evelyn Dickey.

Joining the board in June is former Harvest Energy chief executive Janet Ashdown and Viridor non-executive director and former Crossrail head Rob Holden.

Energy secretary Ed Davey said the new board members join at an “important juncture” for the beleaguered Sellafield nuclear disposal project.

In January this year the NDA stripped the consortium responsible for the clean-up of the Sellafield nuclear waste site of a contract worth a reported £9 billion after the Public Accounts Committee slammed the spiraling costs incurred by the private nuclear consortium Nuclear Management Partners.

“The collective experience of leading major businesses, managing complex commercial projects, transformational change and programme assurance the new non-executive directors will bring will prove invaluable as the NDA works to embed its new commercial model at Sellafield and continue to make strong progress on its decommissioning mission across the estate,” Davey said.

Under the previous managers the cost of one project at the Sellafield site nearly doubled from £387 million to £729 million within 18 months, with another delayed by six years.

All non-executive directors will be offered a fee of £25,000 per year, the NDA said.
