Free EV charge points offered in London to support electricity network research

The free charging infrastructure is part of the Low Carbon London project and is funded by UK Power Networks (UKPN), via the Low Carbon Network Fund, and Transport for London (TfL), via the Office for Low Emission Vehicles Plugged in Places scheme.

The EV charge points will be monitored, with data on the time and duration of each recharge being sent to a research team. This will then be scaled up to illustrate the impact of EV charge points on the distribution and transmission networks.

Nick Fairholme, director responsible for Source London at TfL, said: “This research will enable us all to not just discover the future impact that charging cars at home and at work could have on the electricity network but also encourage the uptake of more electric vehicles in the capital.”
