Gazprom ramps up UK recruitment

The current recruitment drive covers middle rank and junior roles but includes a director of global communications. In each of the past two years the retail business has added more than 50 per cent to its workforce in the UK. It expanded last year into Germany where it acquired a supply business serving some 75,000 sites. It has also picked up supply licences for the Benelux market.

The UK parent company Gazprom Marketing and Trading, has said it is “investing heavily in the electricity market” and has claimed “we have global ambitions and nothing’s off the table.” Its Russian gas giant owner, Gazprom, has long been expected to make a bid for a major European energy player.

Earlier this year it signed a 12-month power purchase agreement with landfill gas generation company Infinis for 16MW of capacity.

The company rebranded the energy retail business in 2011 as Gazprom Energy. Its trading operation, Gazprom Marketing and Trading, based in London, has expanded to more than two hundred staff and moved into larger premises last year.
