She has a number of appointments in academic organisations, including at the University of Wales, Imperial College London, University of Bristol and London School of Economics.

Speaking of the appointment Robin Budenberg, chairman of the Crown Estate, said Davenport’s knowledge of the renewable energy sector will be “invaluable”.

He said: “I am delighted to welcome Juliet to our board. Juliet’s deep knowledge and experience of the renewable energy sector will be invaluable as we embark on the next phase of growth for the UK’s world-leading offshore wind sector.

“While her passion and commitment to business as a force for good will benefit every part of what we do.”

Davenport said: “I’m excited to be joining the Crown Estate. Never has the challenge of a cleaner, greener future for everyone been more important.

“This is a business with a unique role to play in supporting the UK’s transition to a low carbon future, whether through its role in offshore renewables or through the places it creates. I look forward to working with the board and the leadership team.”
