Good Energy profits jump by half

Good Energy has reported a pre-tax profit of £1.2 million in the first half of this year, a 47 per cent increase on the same period in 2012.

Turnover was up 27 per cent to £18.2 million in the six months ending 30 June 2013 – the fifth consecutive first half of growth for the green energy company.

The firm started building an 8.2MW windfarm at Hampole, near Doncaster, which will generate around 20,000MWh a year. That will nearly double the amount of power Good Energy generates.

In September, it passed the 100,000 customer mark across its electricity, gas and feed-in tariff businesses.

Chief executive Juliet Davenport said she was “encouraged” by progress, which was “in line with expectations”.

John Maltby, chairman, added that the company is investing in generation, trading and marketing, to lay “solid foundations for the next stage of our development”.
