Good Energy supports Solar Schools scheme

The renewable energy company has formed a partnership with the Solar Schools campaign which assists schools to raise the finance needed for the solar panels via crowd-funding.

Solar Schools is run by 10:10, a carbon cutting campaign, and it will provide the schools with fundraising packs, as well as being a mentor to the successful applicants.

Juliet Davenport, chief executive of Good Energy, said: “It’s important for school children to get first-hand experience of renewables and see science at work.

“By taking part, children can discover for themselves not only how harnessing the power of the sun can turn into lighting and power for computers in their classrooms, but also how to get support from their local community through crowd-funding.”

Under previous rounds of the Solar Schools scheme, 50 schools have raised £350,000 and have installed 4-10kW systems.

According to Good Energy, a school installing an 8kW system, around 30 panels, will save more than £400 a year on its energy bills and earn more than £21,000 from feed-in tariff payments.

Schools wishing to participate need to apply by 6 June 2014.
