Government announces call for feedback on Helm review

The government has announced a call for feedback on the Helm review of energy costs.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Dtrategy announced today that it is conducting a call for evidence from stakeholders on Professor Dieter Helm CBE’s recently published exercise, which was designed to examine how the UK’s could cut its power costs while maintaining its commitments to tackle climate change.

The government is now calling on industry, businesses and consumer groups to give their opinions on Professor Helm’s recommendations.

Greg Clark, secretary of state for business and energy, said: “Energy bills are too high for consumers. We have been clear that we are committed to bringing down costs, both for households and for businesses.

“I commissioned this review to start a debate about the future of our energy markets. Now I am opening up that debate, asking everyone with an interest to give us their views on Professor Helm’s ideas for bringing down the cost of energy for consumers.”

Comment on the findings should be emailed to costofenergy@beis.gov.uk by 5 January, 2018.
