Government gives green light to two big offshore wind farms, refuses third

Centrica’s proposed 540MW Docking Shoal scheme though was refused due potential impact on sea birds, Sandwich terns, which are protected by environmental legislation.

Centrica was displeased by the decision. In a statement the firm said refusal of section 36 consent for Docking Shoal was “regrettable”.

“This project has already incurred considerable costs and has been awaiting planning consent for more than three and half years. It is essential that the UK maintains an efficient planning process without undue constraints on development if stretching renewable energy targets are to be met”, said the firm.
