Greater Gabbard dispute resolved

An agreement has been reached between Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Ltd (GGOWL), which operates the 500MW array in the Thames Estuary, and the principle contractor, Fluor Limited.

There had been a contractual dispute surrounding repairs that had been made to 52 transition pieces and 35 lower foundation supports to the turbines on the windfarm, which is a joint venture between RWE Npower Renewables and SSE.

Iwan Tukalo, general manager at GGWOL, said: “The agreement between GGOWL and Fluor is a positive development, bringing to an end the contractual dispute between the two parties.”

All 140 turbines at the Greater Gabbard site have been operational since September 2012, and in the six months to March 2013 the windfarm was able to generate electricity for 87 per cent of the time.

This is forecast to increase to more than 90 per cent for 2013/14.
