Green Deal assessments fall 12 per cent

The latest statistics on the Government’s troubled flagship energy efficiency scheme revealed that 22,005 were completed by the end of April – the second highest number lodged in any month to date – but down on the March total of 25,138.

A total of 439 additional Green Deal plans entered the system, bringing the total up to 2,439 at the end of April 2014.

Of the plans agreed by the end of April, 756 were new (quote accepted), 505 were pending (plan signed), and 1,178 were live (measures installed).

An estimated £4.4 million was claimed back via Green Deal cashback vouchers by the end of April, with 14,284 vouchers being issued.

The government figures also revealed that 776,369 measures had been installed by the end of March under the Energy Company Obligation (Eco), with 95,384 being installed that month, the highest number for any month of the scheme so far.

Just over a third (36 per cent) of these measures were cavity wall insulation installations, 29 per cent were boiler upgrades, 21 per cent were loft insulation measures, and seven per cent was made up by solid wall insulation installations.

Richard Twinn, policy and public affairs officer at the UK Green Building Council, said: “The recent spike in Green Deal assessments reflected the surge in Eco activity up until the end of March, but changes to the policy mean this work is likely to tail off over the next few months.

“However, it’s encouraging to see Green Deals growing steadily, with April representing the biggest month on month jump in new plans.

“This is potentially good news for the industry as more self-funded Green Deal work could help to offset the loss of Eco subsidy.”
