Green Deal’s uncapped cashback scheme launches

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) has made £125 million of funding available for the cashback scheme, with the rates guaranteed for the first £40 million.

To qualify for cashback, homeowners need to have completed a Green Deal property assessment, which will inform them what measures, such as solid wall insulation, will be most beneficial for them and how much money they could receive.

The uncapped cashback offer follows the announcement from energy minister Greg Barker last week that planning laws have been relaxed to make it easier for external solid wall insulation to be installed.

Barker said the Department for Communities and Local Government had “relaxed” planning laws so that the insulation measures are categorised as home improvements, rather than enlargement or extension, meaning the solid wall insulation will not require planning permission for most homes.
