Hartlepool sells three unused reservoirs

Owner Hartlepool Water has no further use for the nineteenth century facilities at Hurworth Burn, Crookfoot and Hart.

In recent decades the company, which is owned by Anglian Water, has promoted the sites for leisure pursuits such as fishing and birdwatching.

Operations manager Kevin Ensell said: “These reservoirs were used to supply the old docks with water which they turned into steam to power the old ship building industries Hartlepool is famous for.

“Because these fantastic sites are no longer used today to supply steam they could be better used for leisure or farming in the area.”

H&H Land and Property, the estate agent responsible for the sale, couldn’t say how much the reservoirs might fetch.
