Hinkley Point C nuclear plant legal challenge fails

An Taisce, the National Trust for Ireland, argued the UK government’s decision to grant consent to EDF for the new nuclear plant was invalid, as it had failed to consult the Irish government.

However, Mrs Justice Patterson judged any environmental effects on Ireland, 250km away from the Somerset site, were unlikely.

The judgement removes the only remaining legal challenge to the new nuclear power station. Greenpeace dropped a judicial review in October.
