Horizon sets date for next stage of consultation on Wylfa Newydd

It begins on January 25, with a series of events set to take place throughout spring. The first stage of consultation was conducted in 2014. Another, larger, consultation will follow later this year.

Alan Raymant, chief operating officer for Horizon, said: “Wylfa Newydd will deliver lasting benefits for generations to come, including jobs for local people and a boost to the local economy. We also recognise that a project of this scale will have impacts for the community so we’re keen we factor the community’s voice into our proposals before they reach an advanced stage.

“From January we’ll be holding public information events followed by a series of focus group style meetings on areas of our project which we know matter most locally, including the Welsh language and our plans for worker accommodation.”

Horizon expects to present full and final proposals later this year and is hoping to start generating power within the first half of the 2020s. They plan to generate more than 2,700 MW at the site using two Advanced Boiling Water Reactors supplied by Hitachi, which bought Horizon Nuclear Power in 2012.
