KPMG has won a competitive tender to undertake an independent study which will inform a GFG report detailing a full range of scenarios on the future of gas until 2050.
The future of the UK gas network has been reinvigorated recently following the realisation that it will continue to play a role in heating homes.
The shadow minister for energy and climate change Alan Whitehead said in November that the gas industry should look forward to a bright future including the increasing use of green gas, interaction with district heat technologies and integration with the electricity system through power to gas schemes.
The ENA said the report will be published by the end of April this year. It will consider the main drivers and trends that impact on the long term development of the energy system such as technology, decarbonisation targets, and demand profiles and their impact upon the gas network.
KPMG will also look to identify policy initiatives to realise the benefits emerging from the analysis.
