The Liberal Democrats have a new environment and climate change spokesperson following a shake-up of Sir Vince Cable’s top team.
The party’s leader has announced that Bath MP Wera Hobhouse is moving to cover energy and climate change.
Hobhouse, who was elected to become MP for Bath at the 2017 general election, also covers justice issues for the Lib Dems.
The 59-year old mother of four takes over from former equalities minister Baroness Featherstone, who has held the energy and climate change brief since the 2017 general election.
Sir Vince’s reshuffle also sees Lib Dem chief whip Alistair Carmichael take on environment, food and rural affairs. And former leader Tim Farron will take over the role of communities and local government spokesperson.
The German born Hobhouse, who has lived in the UK since 1990 after marrying her British husband William, has focused on environmental issues as MP for Bath, including campaigning to cut traffic congestion in the historic city.
Commenting on the changes to the Liberal Democrat spokespeople, Sir Vince said: “While parliament is consumed by Brexit, we need to remember that people are also affected by a whole host of other challenges.”
