Lib Dems vote for 2030 target to cut carbon intensity of new power plant

Delegates voted in favour of establishing a target range of 50 – 100 grammes of carbon dioxide per kilowatt hour for any fossil fuel plant built after 2030.

The motion, which also included proposals to strengthen the Green Investment Bank, was moved by Treasury minister Danny Alexander.

Labour leader Ed Miliband has already signaled support for such a move, which also has the backing of energy and climate change secretary Ed Davey.
