Mike Quinn announces he is stepping down as CEO of Ervia

Mike Quinn, chief executive of Irish Water and Gas Networks Ireland parent company Ervia, has announced he will leave Ervia in April.

Quinn, who joined Ervia in 2017, has spent a total of four years in the public sector, previously as chief executive of Bord Na Mona.

Ervia says Quinn will be pursuing a career opportunity in the private sector following his departure.

Quinn said: ‘’During my tenure at Ervia, I have been very impressed by the scale of the challenges and the commitment by almost 1,850 staff across the company to ensuring we put in place the correct strategy and infrastructure that will support Irish people and facilitate the growth of the Irish economy into the future.

“It has been an absolute privilege to lead the company. The work we do in water and gas is vital and I have confidence that the talent, expertise and commitment to progress is in place.

“I want to thank the board, minister Eoghan Murphy TD and the teams at the departments of housing planning and local government and the department of communications, climate action and environment, as well as all members of the Ervia executive team for their support during my tenure.”

Tony Keohane, chair of Ervia, added: ‘’I am very disappointed to lose someone of Mike Quinn’s calibre. His commitment and contribution to Ervia as CEO has been excellent.

“We set ambitious targets for the company in 2018 and those metrics have been delivered under Mike’s leadership.

“The Ervia board appreciates the significant contribution Mr Quinn has made to Ervia and wishes him well in his future endeavours.’’

Ervia says the process for selecting a new chief executive will “commence shortly” adding that Quinn will remain in role to ensure a smooth transition over the coming months.

Writing for Utility Week in September, Quinn said: “Ireland’s ambitious decarbonisation targets to reduce emissions by 80-95 per cent from 1990 levels by 2050 means that we must make the best and most innovative use of our existing national resources.”
