MOSL moves towards testing IT system for market opening

The company is in the process of finishing the first phase of the detailed design work for the £20 million central IT system and, in October, appointed CGI to develop it by adapting a system that has been used in the Dutch and Danish electricity markets for use in the non-domestic water market in England.

MOSL has now appointed consultancy firm SQS to help with testing the system. The initial analysis of the testing phases will run until 14 December.

MOSL director of delivery Mark Salisbury said: “The accuracy and robustness of our systems is of paramount importance to our members and vital to the success of the new market.

He said the company will launch “on time and within budget” and with the “utmost confidence” in the systems upon which the market will depend.

MOSL’s role is to deliver the operational capability needed to support the efficient operation of the new market when it opens in April 2017. It will provide the IT systems that enable registration, customer switching and settlement between wholesalers and retailers.

The firm aims to finish building the central market operating system by next March, ready for testing in April 2016.
