MOSL has launched an online dashboard and map setting out drought statuses and water restrictions across England and Wales.
The dashboard uses collated and aggregated data to provide users with an interactive summary of drought statuses and water restrictions in different areas. They can see how many supply points are located in these areas and get an 18-month view of their expected consumption over phases of restrictions.
Users can filter the data by wholesaler or retailer, drought status and type of restriction, and the 133 water resource zones defined by wholesalers in their water resource management plans.
The dashboard is accompanied by a searchable map showing drought statuses and restrictions by postal sector.
Temporary usage bans (TUBs), more commonly known as hosepipe bans, imposed by water companies apply to domestic customers only. With the non-household sector using around one third of the water consumed in England and Wales, wholesalers and retailers together with MOSL and regulators have worked to manage demand through efficiency and leakage detection.
The new tools support the objectives of recently formed drought sub-group of the Retailer Wholesaler Group that was created to improve collaboration and consistency between parties in how they address and communicate about current drought conditions.
