MOSL urges Ofwat to ‘make sure firms are ready’ for market opening

The company’s chief executive Ben Jeffs has written to Ofwat to provide assurance to the board that it has the “capability and capacity to fulfil its functions”.

In the letter to Ofwat chief executive Cathryn Ross, Jeffs said it is “essential” that all companies have “effective processes in place” at market opening to resolve any data quality issues that impact a customer’s experience in an “acceptable timescale”.

MOSL is “continuing to support companies in making the necessary preparations to meet the technical market requirements, whilst recognising that each market participant is accountable for ensuring its own readiness to participate in the retail market”, he said.

The group emphasised the importance of resolving any outstanding policy issues at the “earliest opportunity” to inform their planning and systems preparations.

“We believe that this will help give greater confidence in the timetable of delivery and avoid any unnecessary delay in our delivery of the CMOS,” Jeffs said.

MOSL confirmed earlier this week that it had completed the design phase of the central market operating system (CMOS), which will be at the heart of the competitive market for non-household water customers when it launches.
