On the Move: RWE appoints generation COO and other sector appointments

This week has seen several industry professionals moving around the sector.

Companies such as RWE, Black and Veatch and Ofgem have announced new appointments.

Utility Week takes a look at some of the industry’s latest moves.

RWE

Ulf Kerstin, the former head of portfolio management and mergers and acquisitions at RWE, has been appointed as chief commercial officer of RWE Generation and RWE Supply and Trading.

His predecessor Tom Glover will become chief commercial officer at the new RWE Renewables, where he will be responsible for marketing electricity production from renewable energies.

Kerstin moved to RWE in 2016. He initially worked for Verbundnetz Gas AG and Westfälische Ferngas AG before moving to RWE Gas in 2002. From 2007 he worked in various commercial functions for RWE Supply and Trading.

Utility People

Industry recruiter Utility People has announced Sam Lewis as its new managing director, as outgoing MD Angela Peart takes up a non-executive position.

Lewis, who was appointed to the position of divisional director in April this year, will take over the day to day running of the organisation.

Meanwhile company co-founder Peart will take up a new role as a non-executive director.

She said: “I am so proud of Utility People and all we’ve achieved over the past 13 years. The company has ambitious plans and Sam is the right person to steer Utility People on to further growth and success.”

Black and Veatch

Stuart White has been appointed as leakage services manager at infrastructure developer Black and Veatch.

White previously worked at Severn Trent where he served as the company’s transformation leakage project manager, responsible for implementing a portfolio of efficiency initiatives using enhanced monitoring, analytics and prioritised decision-making tools.

Prior to this, White served with a number of technology companies developing monitoring, analytics and decision-making tools – and software as service offerings – for water companies. He will be part of Black and Veatch’s newly-formed smart maintenance team, based in Chester.

To help water companies develop resilient water networks and reduce losses, White will be combining Black and Veatch’s programme management, logistics, delivery and analytics knowledge with tools to provide near time network insights through a district metered area (DMA) health index assessment.

Ofgem

Of course, the biggest appointment this week came from energy regulator Ofgem, which announced Jonathan Brearley as its new chief executive on Wednesday (2 October).
