National Grid consults on North Wales low-carbon connections

The proposals relate to connecting a new nuclear power station at Wylfa, Anglesey, and an offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea, up to the transmission system.

The preferred options involve three ‘packages’ of work. These include additional overhead connections between Wylfa and Pentir, Gwynedd; a new substation in West Gwynedd; and an additional underground connection at the Glaslyn Estuary, which will replace an existing underground connection.

For the first stage of the consultation, National Grid is welcoming public opinion, with senior project manager saying “feedback is extremely important in informing the decisions we make”.
