Michael Scott, who has been interim finance director since Tony’s resignation, will continue in that role until Gardiner takes up his appointment in November.
Commenting on the appointment, Drax chairman Phil Cox said: “The directors are delighted to welcome Will to the Board of Drax. He brings a wealth of experience and skills, and will be a strong addition to the Drax team. I also extend the directors’ thanks to Michael Scott who has done an excellent job as interim finance director.”
Analyst at Whitman Howard, Angelos Anastasiou said the filling of the finance director position with a good candidate “removes some uncertainty”.
“Will Gardiner has held a number of prominent finance director positions, and seems to us to be a further good Board appointment,” he said. “We still see good value in the shares in the medium term.”
