New laws to put the UK ‘at the forefront’ of electric vehicles

The Queen made the announcement in her annual speech to parliament, which sets out the government’s legislative agenda for the coming year.

According to the government the Modern Transport Bill outlined by Her Majesty will “maintain and extend the UK’s role as a world-leading transport manufacturing base”.

It said the bill would “cut red tape” and “put the right framework in place to allow innovation to flourish” but gave no further details.

The speech further saw the announcement that powers of consent for onshore wind projects in Wales, and for all other energy projects in the country up 350MW, both onshore and offshore, will be devolved to Welsh ministers.

Also outlined in the speech was the Better Markets Bill, which the government said would “give more power consumers” by helping them to switch between suppliers faster.
