NJUG renamed Street Works UK

The National Joint Utilities Group (NJUG), the trade association for utilities and their streetworks contractors and suppliers, has been renamed Street Works UK.

The new name was announced at the organisation’s annual conference in Birmingham today (17 October).

“I am excited by this change,” said Street Works UK chief executive Bob Gallienne.

“While the NJUG name is well understood within the industry, an organisational name which more clearly communicates what we do and who we are is necessary for us to be able to add even more value to our members.

“There is now no doubt as to who the go to organisation is for streetworks in the UK.”

The rebranding included the unveiling of a new strapline: Connecting communities, Enabling growth. The message is intended to reflect the value streetworks add to consumers and the wider economy by maintaining, upgrading and building new infrastructure.

“Our purpose as an organisation is more important than ever,” said Gallienne. “We share the government’s belief in the importance of infrastructure projects in driving economic growth, productivity and prosperity across the country.

“But these simply cannot be delivered without street works– from new housing and the rollout of superfast broadband, to making our energy network fit for future developments, such as electric vehicles.

“Streetworks makes a huge contribution to the UK as the enabler of this agenda. And they cannot be delivered without a close dialogue between our sector and the government.”

Last month the trade association raised concerns about government proposals to allow councils to charge by the hour for streetworks as part of a controversial lane rental scheme.
