Northumbrian and National Grid recognised on ‘most ethical’ list

Northumbrian Water and National Grid have been recognised for their ethical practices in a global benchmarking list by the Ethisphere Institute.

Northumbrian was the only water and sewerage to feature on the World’s Most Ethical Company list.

It is the tenth year the company has been named listed and it is one of only five UK companies to be included in the Ethisphere Institute global list. National Grid was the only UK energy utility to feature.

The company’s support of customers, communities, the environment and staff over the past year earned it the accolade. Ethisphere, which benchmarks standards of ethical business practices, highlighted the staff volunteering scheme, numerous community projects; donations to local environmental groups.

“To be recognised globally as one of most ethical companies and to be the only water and sewerage company in the world to make the list is a fantastic achievement,” Northumbrian’s chief executive officer, Heidi Mottram, said.

“I feel incredibly proud and honoured that our people have received this honour for the tenth time. This recognition would not be possible without our amazing teams, who put this passion into their work every day, caring for our customers, for the environment, our communities and our people, delivering services that people simply couldn’t imagine life without.”

Northumbrian’s progress on climate change and carbon neutrality goals as well as sector-wide commitments to eliminate water poverty by 2030 were also highlighted by Ethisphere.
