Northumbrian Water awards contracts for network improvements

The contracts have been awarded to four companies and are worth £37 million per year. They will run for an initial three year period but could be extended for an additional six years.

Fastflow Pipeline Services, based in Washington, Tyne and Wear, won the major share of the work with an annual value of £20.5 million in the North East and £9.5million in Essex, Northumbrian Water’s southern region where it operates as Essex and Suffolk Water.

Other contracts have been awarded to Crossglade from Chelmsford, Essex with an annual value of £5million; Lowman from Southend, Essex with an annual value of £1million; and T4 Survey from Ipswich for work in Suffolk with an annual value of £1million.

The work they will undertake includes network improvements, water main installation and renewals, new service and meter connections, repair and maintenance, enabling works and reinstatement.

Northumbrian Water’s water director John Devall said: “We are determined to maintain and improve the extremely high water quality and levels of services we currently deliver and these contracts will help us achieve our leading targets.”

He added: “The work is of a specialised nature and the selected companies have a strong presence in the regions we operate in and, in turn, their success will also have a positive impact on a diverse and wide group of businesses regions-wide.”
