Octopus Energy and parking platform JustPark have launched an electric vehicle (EV) solution to identify suitable locations and install private chargers for fleet drivers.
Founded in 2006, JustPark has a network of 50,000 parking locations. JustPark users can find, reserve and pay for parking across its network using an app.
The new solution, named FleetCharge, will see JustPark find convenient off-street charging locations for drivers who are unable to have an EV charger installed at home.
Alternatively, it will identify a suitable location to install a private charger within five minutes’ walk of a fleet driver’s home, allowing them to charge overnight. Octopus Energy Services will install and manage FleetCharge’s charging units which users can access through an app.
It is hoped the solution will address “charging inequality” and help businesses accelerate their transition to EVs.
Drivers will be given guaranteed access to their dedicated chargers meaning the solution will effectively create a private charging network for each fleet operating customer. They will also be given access Octopus’ Electric Juice network EV roaming service.
Mike Strahlman, director of EV at JustPark, said: “Our discussions with fleet customers tell us that there is a real appetite to electrify in the sector, but charging accessibility at home is preventing many operators from scaling up at speed.
“FleetCharge is a simple and effective way to bring convenient, local charging to fleet drivers, putting an end to the charging inequality that is holding the industry back.”
