Two more energy suppliers have ceased trading, taking the total number of supplier failures so far this year to five.
PfP Energy, formerly Places for People Energy, is based in Preston. It supplied around 80,000 domestic and 5,000 non-domestic customers.
A statement on its website said it was “with regret” that it must announce it was ceasing to trade and added the usual caveats about customers’ having their credit balances protected by the supplier of last resort process.
Salford-based MoneyPlus Energy meanwhile supplied gas and electricity to around 9,000 domestic customers. It too announced the news on its website.
Neil Lawrence, director of retail at Ofgem, said: “Although the news that a supplier going out of business can be unsettling, PFP Energy and MoneyPlus Energy customers do not need to worry.
“Under our safety net we’ll make sure your energy supplies continue. If you are a domestic customer with credit on your PFP or MoneyPlus account this is protected and you will not lose the money that is owed to you.”
The suppliers join Hub Energy which exited in August and Green Network Energy and Simplicity Energy, both of which exited the market in January.
