Ofgem figures confirm solar scramble following subsidy cuts announcement

More than 372MW of domestic solar PV installations have been registered since the government announced its original plans to slash the subsidy on 31 October 2011. That four month frenzy compares to just 262MW installed in the 18 months stretching back to when the scheme began in April 2010.

Some 276MW of domestic solar PV installations were accredited by Ofgem between the original 12 December cut off date for the higher rate of subsidy proposed by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) and the new 3 March cut off. That change of date, subject to a final appeal at the Supreme Court, was prompted by a legal challenge by solar firms and Friends of the Earth.

Including commercial, industrial and community schemes as well as domestic installations, there was 869MW of solar PV installed under the feed-in tariff scheme up until today (5 March), according to the Ofgem register, which can be found here:
