Omni Energy barred from registering new electricity meters

Elexon has decided to bar small supplier Omni Energy from registering new electricity meters after the company failed to sufficiently reduce its credit cover percentage.

The disruptor brand, which specialises in serving prepayment meter (PPM) customers, previously warned it was “highly likely to cease trading” before the end of November.

Last week, the retailer was listed as being in credit default and in a recently published circular Elexon revealed that it had resolved to suspend, subject to approval by Ofgem, the right of Omni to register any metering systems or Balancing Mechanism Units.

Elexon has decided to expel several energy suppliers from the Balancing and Settlement Code recently.

They include business-only energy supplier MA Energy, which serves around 3,300 customers, as well as Ampower, which supplies around 13,400 customers.

The expulsion of Whoop Energy (under 5,000 customers) was announced alongside that of Symbio, which has since ceased trading.

Elexon has now revoked its decision to expel Delta Gas and Power after the supplier increased its credit cover percentage by enough to leave credit default.
