On the Move: Ensek appoints new MD; Electralink confirms CEO

In our latest round-up of industry appointments, energy retail platform Ensek has appointed a new managing director and Electralink has confirmed its acting chief executive will take up the role on a permanent basis.

Elsewhere, Renewable UK has announced three new board members.

Ensek

Grace Rothery, former head of UK retail at B2B gas supplier Gazprom Energy,  has been named UK managing director of billing platform Ensek.

Rothery has more than a decade of experience in the gas, electricity and green energy industries. At Gazprom, she implemented and coordinated a customer excellence function and was responsible for its end-to-end customer journey.

At Ensek, she will focus on maintaining strong relationships with new and existing UK customers while the company expands internationally into mainland Europe and Asia.

She said: “The energy market is fundamentally shifting. What’s important now to the end-user are additional services and how suppliers are tackling the energy transition.

“It’s an exciting time to join Ensek as it is truly positioned to provide the agility and capability needed to drive the transformation that’s happening in the industry.

“Ensek is at the forefront of this movement, not just because of its cutting-edge technology, but also because of the strong relationships it has with customers. Our customers view Ensek as a strategic partner, and I can’t wait to work with them closely through this energy revolution.”

Electralink

Electralink, which operates the GB energy market’s Data Transfer Service (DTS), has announced Dan Hopkinson has been made permanent in his role as the company’s chief executive.

Hopkinson, formerly director of data and transformation services, took up the role of acting chief executive earlier this year, replacing Stuart Lacey.

He joined the company in March 2016 to focus on the development of the Data Transfer Network (DTN) and the growth of associated data services.

Hopkinson said: “Electralink is embarking on a mission to deliver even better value for money services for our customers, and we are enabling access to data to even more innovation projects and business models.

“Using data to facilitate market innovation is fundamental to the successful transition to net zero and the successful delivery of a competitive retail market through digitisation.

“At Electralink, we see our role as facilitating a data-driven market through the delivery of data, data infrastructure and data governance to all stakeholders.”

He added: “It is a challenging time for the energy market right now, but challenges are why I am here. I am really enjoying my role and look forward to meeting with new and existing stakeholders as we emerge from the pandemic and double down on net zero plans.”

Renewable UK

Elsewhere, trade body Renewable UK has appointed three new energy experts to its board.

Joining the board are Graham Cooley, chief executive at ITM Power, Kate Turner, policy and regulation director at Scottish Power Renewables and Gordon MacDougall, managing director at BayWa r.e.

Speaking of his appointment, Cooley said: “As a green hydrogen specialist, ITM Power supports the growth and full utilisation of renewable energy by providing long-duration energy storage. I look forward to working with Renewable UK member organisations to achieve our collective goal of net zero in the UK by 2050.”

Turner said: “There has never been a more exciting time for the renewables industry as we transition to a cleaner energy future and deliver net zero but we need to be able to do more now and do it faster.

“Green electricity will be the backbone of our entire economy, the way we live, travel and how we heat our homes.

“As we work to quadruple renewable generation across the UK to achieve net zero targets, we will see significant opportunities thanks to infrastructure investment, job creation, innovation and supply chain grown while creating a legacy of a smart, agile energy system. And Renewable UK will be there to help lead the way.”

MacDougall said: “It’s a privilege to be joining the board of Renewable UK at this crucial time in the UK’s journey to net zero, and it feels particularly significant as we play host to the world with COP26.

“This decade will prove pivotal to the future of the planet, and it’s vital we continue to drive forward the renewable transition, creating long-term investment and job opportunities, and ensuring a sustainable future for us all. I look forward to working with the talented and diverse team at Renewable UK to achieve this essential growth in the UK renewable sector.”
