A former chair of the Consumer Council for Water (now CCW) has been named as the preferred candidate to be the next chair of the Environment Agency when Emma Howard Boyd steps down in September after her second term.
Alan Lovell’s appointment will be subject to a select committee hearing with both the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Environmental Audit Committee, which will report on his suitability for the post.
Lovell spent four years on the board of CCW as part of his career chairing commercial and non-profit boards that currently includes Interserve Group as well as Safestyle UK.
He has been chief executive of six companies including Infinis, Jarvis, Costain and Dunlop Slazenger.
SES Water has beefed up its board with its first female non-executive director with Rebecca Wiles joining. Wiles, who has worked in the energy sector for more than 30 years at BP, has focused on improving operational efficiency, health and safety and environmental impact. She has held multiple executive positions at BP leading major projects around operations and delivering technology.

The Crown Estate has named Gus Jaspert as managing director of marine from October with Huub den Rooijen retiring after ten years but remaining in an advisory role at the Crown Estate.
Jaspert brings experience across complex policy environments leading strategy, transformation and delivery in government at a regional, national and international level. He currently holds a director general position in the Home Office and has previously worked for two different prime ministers, including to deliver on net zero strategies.
