In our latest round up of industry appointments, National Grid has unveiled a new director of regulation for electricity transmission, while UKPN has appointed a new chief information officer. Elsewhere Ovo, Kearney and Clancy reveal new promotions and hires.
National Grid
Rob Salter-Church has been appointed director of regulation for electricity transmission at National Grid.
The former Ofgem director joined National Grid as head of UK regulatory strategy last year after previously spending three years as a director at PwC UK.
Salter-Church has held a number of roles related to the energy sector. In 2008 he oversaw the passage of the Energy Bill through Parliament and he later became head of regulation for the GB smart meter programme.
During his six years at Ofgem, he rose to become director of retail systems transformation and director of strategy.
UK Power Networks
After more than 13 years at UK Power Networks, Matt Webb has become its new chief information officer.
Webb initially joined the network operator in 2010 as a programme manager. Since then he has taken on the role of head of asset information and more recently head of enterprise data management.
Prior to joining UKPN he spent two years at EDF where he was latterly the business change manager.
Ovo
David Rose has joined Ovo as its senior commercial manager for solar and storage.
Rose has previously worked as pricing manager at Tonik Energy, as well as senior pricing analyst at Extra Energy.
Rose said: “Delighted to say I joined the Ovo team this week. I’ll be supporting our ambitions of a zero carbon future by helping grow and scale our solar and battery storage proposition.
“Everyone I’ve met so far has given me such a warm welcome. A new challenge but really exciting to be part of.”
Clancy
Clancy has bolstered its senior leadership team with two appointments, strengthening the business’ expertise in delivering civil engineering projects across water, energy and transport infrastructure.
Daniel Tonkin has joined as operations director for Clancy’s work for South West Water.
In November 2023 Clancy secured a place on South West Water’s Capital Delivery Programme Tier 1 Delivery Partners framework, which will include the installation, refurbishment and renewal of pipelines, gravity mains and sewers, and pumping stations across Devon and Cornwall.
Tonkin has more than 25 years’ experience in water and infrastructure, including most recently as contract director for Morrison Water Services.
Simon Hyams has been appointed as operations director at Clancy’s major infrastructure division, which includes its work on projects for HS2 and wider transport networks as well as on new water and energy pipelines.
He will work alongside Clancy’s business development and operations teams to support the long-term growth of its civil engineering and major infrastructure division.
Hyams has more than three decades of experience, including as managing director for major projects at Buckingham Group Contracting as well as senior roles at Energy Technologies Institute and at Galliford Try.
Kearney
Mark Jobson has become a partner at Kearney, two years after joining the consultancy’s strategy, operations and digital division for energy transition and utilities.
Jobson has previously held several key roles at Centrica including head of strategy at British Gas and chief product owner for metering services.
Prior to British Gas, he worked as a consultant in the PwC group.
