Opower helps customers save 2TWh of energy

More than 15 million energy consumers across six countries have signed up to Opower’s energy monitoring service, which has saved customers £139 million and also cut 1.3 billion kilograms of CO2 since 2007.

In the UK, Opower is working with with First Utility, and is expecting to expand its UK operation in the coming weeks.

Alex Laskey, Opower president and founder, said the 2TWh marker was “a significant and exciting milestone,” adding that it had been achieved nine months after reaching 1TWh of energy savings.

The energy saving software provides residential customers with information on their energy usage compared to similar homes and offers personalised energy saving tips.

Nandini Basuthakur, senior vice president and managing director of Europe, Middle East and Africa at Opower, said: “As we continue to add utility partners across Europe and beyond, we will increase out impact on energy consumption world-wide, saving families significant amounts of money in the process.”
