Ovo cuts prices while First Utility hikes them

Average dual fuel customers on Ovo’s standard fixed tariff will now pay £1,088 a year. The company claimed that compared to an average of £1,162 for comparable tariffs with big six providers.

For its 100 per cent green energy tariff, the price reduction means average dual fuel customers will pay £1,138 per year, according to the firm.

Switching site Uswitch however said Ovo’s standard fixed deal made it the fifth cheapest on the market, behind EDF, Scottish Power, Sainsbury’s and Npower.

Uswitch said until it hiked variable tariffs for new customers this week, First Utility had been the cheapest supplier. Its new variable deal costs costs £1,128 a year – an increase of £101, making it the eighth best deal on the market, according to Uswitch.
