Pensioners urge NI Executive to help older people keep warm

The Pensioners’ Parliament, which is part of the Age Sector Platform charity, has urged the NI Executive to used extra funds from the Treasury to help tackle fuel poverty.

The fourth year of the parliament was launched on Friday and Michael Monaghan, chair of the NI Pensioners’ Parliament said four out of five people “are worried” about keeping warm in winter and “this problem is not going away”.

He added: “During each of the last three years of the Pensioners’ Parliament, the same proportion of older people has continued to be worried about the cost of energy; yet here we are in 2014 and older people’s concerns have still not been fully confronted.”
