Plans for £4.5billion Moray Firth offshore wind farm submitted

The 1.5GW Moray Firth project is the first round three project to enter the planning stage, and if successful, would see 339 turbines installed in the Moray Firth.

If the £4.5 billion project is approved, work on the site, 13 miles from Caithness, could begin as soon as 2015 and be completed by 2020.

This is one of the first projects in The Crown Estate’s Round Three leases to enter the planning system.

RenewableUK calls this a “watershed moment” and expects proposals for a further 4.5GW to be submitted this year.
