Power NI to take on power supplies from planned fleet of 250kW wind turbines

The power purchase agreement will last for 15 years. It will cover all the 250kW wind turbines that Simple Power intends to install throughout the region over the next five years. The 200 turbines will be installed singly, instead of in large wind farms.

Paul Carson, chief executive of Simple Power, said, “Medium scale wind development, in the form of the single wind turbines we develop, … supports the rural economy by enabling farmers and landowners to participate in renewable generation. The agreement with Power NI offered the best commerical terms for Simple Power providing access to the wholesale electricity market.”

Stephen McCully, Power NI’s managing director said: “This relationship helps Power NI build on our strong links with both the farming and agricultural sector and is a pivotal alliance in ensuring Northern Ireland has a more secure energy future.”
